The Direct Answer

Push when the wave creates a safe reason for the enemy to respond and you know where you will go next. Hold or clear more slowly when pushing would expose you to a missing enemy, leave your teammate alone, or make you late to a nearby objective. The goal is not to keep the wave at one preferred location; it is to create a useful next decision.

When This Works

Use this rule during ordinary lane windows, after a reset, or when your team is deciding whether to pressure a side of the map. It is especially useful for new players who push automatically after every clear. Pair it with the laning guide when you need the wider lane routine.

When Not to Use

Do not force a push when a fight has already started nearby, when you are too low to escape, or when the enemy can collapse from an unseen route. A wave is not more valuable than surviving and arriving for the next important play.

A Three-Question Check

  • Can I see enough information? Check enemy locations and the position of your nearest teammate before crossing the safe part of the lane.
  • What response do I want? A push is useful if it makes an opponent collect the wave, gives an ally room to move, or buys time for an objective. If it creates none of these, a shorter clear is often better.
  • Where is my exit? Choose cover, a teammate, or a known route before using abilities and ammunition to finish the wave.

Common Mistakes

  • Pushing because an ability is available, without checking the minimap.
  • Finishing a wave and then standing in the same exposed lane.
  • Rotating after the fight has already begun instead of preparing first.
  • Treating a missed last hit as a reason to overstay.
