Deadlock Economy Guide: Souls, Items, and Pacing
Souls are the most important resource in Deadlock. Understanding Soul income, distribution, and key timing windows lets you control the pace of the match.
Sources of Souls
Souls come from: Trooper minions, map objectives Guardian/Walker/Shrine, enemy hero kills, Soul Urn deliveries, and the Rejuvenator.
The Soul Urn is the biggest team-wide gold spike, spawning on a timer. Winning or losing the Urn fight usually dictates the item gap for the next 2β3 minutes.
Distribution Rules
Souls have a pickup radius and are shared among nearby teammates. To maximize early farm, the carry usually soaks one lane alone while the support roams or helps other lanes.
But don't abandon team objectives just to farm. Missing the Soul Urn fight because you were greedily clearing a side wave often backfires.
Key Timing Windows
0β4 minutes: farming phase. Prioritize last-hitting and contesting the first Soul Urn.
4β10 minutes: item power spike phase. Teamfights break out around Walkers and the Mid-Boss.
After 10 minutes: core items are online. Teamfights decide the game; protect your Patron.
