Deadlock Haze Item Build - How to Choose Items by Match State

Choose a Haze item build from the match state: safe weapon pressure, access problems, survival pressure, or pick utility.

The Direct Answer

Haze does not need the same item category every game. Choose weapon value when you can keep firing, movement or defensive value when enemies stop that firing window, and ability utility only when it improves a real pick your team can convert. The correct build is the one that makes Haze useful in the next contested moment.

When This Approach Works

Use it when the match is changing faster than a preset build can account for: a lane opponent is pressuring you, an enemy is escaping every pick, or your team is winning fights but you die before contributing. It also works well with the Haze hero profile because her value depends on target access and sustained attention, not one button alone.

When Not to Use This Approach

Do not buy a category merely because it appears in a popular build. If the problem is poor timing or missing shots, another damage purchase will not fix it. Do not rely on an old recommendation after a patch has changed an item’s function or cost.

A Practical Sequence

  • Identify what ended your last useful fight.
  • Decide whether the failure was access, survival, damage, or conversion.
  • Buy one answer, not three unrelated answers.
  • Use the next two fights to test whether the answer created a longer, safer firing window.

For item names and live descriptions, compare the equipment directory with the Haze Burst Assassin build. This page is a decision framework, not a claim that one patch-proof list exists.

Common Mistakes

  • Building for a highlight instead of the next objective.
  • Buying range while fighting inside close, controlled spaces.
  • Ignoring defense after being interrupted on every entry.
  • Changing the whole build after one unlucky fight.
