Advanced Tips

Once you know the basics, these skills separate average players from good ones: movement, lane pressure, resource control, and macro awareness.

1. Movement: The Biggest Skill Gap

Both official and community guides emphasize that movement separates good players from great ones in Deadlock:

  • Dash Jump: dash then jump for longer distances — the foundation of travel, chase, and escape.
  • Air Dash: after double-jumping, dash mid-air to adjust landing or dodge abilities.
  • Wall Jump: bounce off walls for extra height and unexpected angles.
  • Slide: crouch while going downhill to maintain speed and lower your profile.
  • Zipline: use crouch to dismount with momentum; you get stunned if attacked within 4 seconds of boarding.
  • Teleporter: located in the subway and other spots; fast cross-map rotation but vulnerable during channel.

Spend 5 minutes in Sandbox each day practicing dash-jumps and wall-jump routes, then warm up with a Bot Match.

2. Lane Pressure: Last-Hitting and Soul Orbs

The laning phase (first 8-10 minutes) is about economy, not kills:

  • Practice last-hitting; missed creeps are direct soul loss.
  • Collect your soul orbs immediately; try to shoot enemy orbs they miss to deny income.
  • During pushed waves, use downtime to clear nearby boxes or jungle, but don't miss the next wave.
  • When low on health, buy sustain or kill the healing trooper instead of recalling immediately.

3. Resource Control: Timers and Invades

Key Timers

  • 2:00 — Boxes / Golden Statues spawn
  • 5:00 — Medium jungle camps spawn
  • 8:00 — Hard camps + Sinner's Sacrifice
  • 10:00 — Urn + Mid-Boss spawn
  • Every 7 min after — Mid-Boss respawns

Invade Rules

After clearing your wave, steal enemy jungle camps if safe. Invading increases your economy while directly reducing theirs. High-mobility heroes do this best.

4. Macro: Make the Right Call

  • Alive players impact the map: don't dive for one kill and die — death costs you far more than the kill is worth.
  • Convert wins to objectives: after a teamfight, take Guardian/Walker/Urn/Mid-Boss or the win is wasted.
  • Watch the minimap: retreat when enemies disappear; trade objectives if you can't reach a fight in time.
  • Know when to give: concede Urn or Mid-Boss when behind and defend waves; force objectives when ahead.
